Choosing a seller, a listing and an agent when a price looks reduced
A reduced price is only one line in the decision. These five checks put it in its place, from the site you found the item on to the agent you pay.
How to choose a Spreadsheet site that dates its links
A Spreadsheet site is a catalogue of finds that links out to marketplace listings. Its usefulness rests on whether those links still lead somewhere and whether the prices beside them are current. Three signs tell you a lot in a minute.
First, dates: a good catalogue says when it last checked its links and when its facts were read. Second, plain labelling: a search result should be called a search, a sponsored link should be marked as sponsored. Third, restraint: be wary of headline counts of items, star scores and “best” lists, because a reader cannot test any of them. This site dates every check, marks agent links as sponsored and publishes no scores, and you should hold it to the same standard.
How to choose a seller whose prices hold still
For a reduced find, the seller signal that matters most is price behaviour. A seller whose price for a version sits at one level for weeks and then drops for a dated campaign is easier to trust than one whose price jumps the week before every event. Your record shows which kind you are dealing with after a few visits.
Two other signs help. A seller who labels its crossed-out figure, for example as a suggested retail price, is giving you something you can weigh; an unlabelled figure gives you nothing. And a seller who shows a clear campaign period is following the Chinese rules on marking time limits, which at least tells you when the reduced price should end. Notes on a listing that warn about colour differences or excluded returns are worth reading too, but they say nothing about the price.

How to choose an agent by what it publishes
What an agent writes down, and whether it keeps to it, is most of what trusting it means. Before you hand over a reduced find, look for four things on its help pages: every fee named with an amount or a formula, a stated rule for what happens when a seller’s price changes after you pay, the basis of its exchange rate, and a way to see photos of your item before it ships. Agents that publish these are easier to hold to account than agents that say “contact support”.
Here is how four agents trading on 19 October 2026 stood on the three money lines, read on their own help pages that day. It is a comparison of published facts, not a ranking.
| Agent | Agent service fee | Fixed charge per parcel | Is the exchange-rate basis named |
|---|---|---|---|
| LoongBuy | None. Its fee page opens with “0 service fee”.Services & Fees help page, read 19 Oct 2026 | Customs declaration fee, “in most cases RMB 8.00”, varying by shipping line.Same page, 19 Oct 2026 | Not named. Other currencies are converted “using the applicable exchange rate”; yuan is the settlement amount.Same page, 19 Oct 2026 |
| Kakobuy | None. Its help page promises a free shopping agent service with “no handling fees”.Help: how the agent service charges, 19 Oct 2026 | Customs declaration cost “generally RMB 8.00” a parcel; another help page lists a ¥8 packaging consumables fee in its cost formula. Two help pages, 19 Oct 2026 | Partly. Top-ups follow “the latest exchange rate announced by the bank”, with no bank named.Payment and deposit help, 19 Oct 2026 |
| CSSBuy | 6% of product price plus China freight for ordinary members.Help: Cost and Fees, 19 Oct 2026 | No separate per-parcel figure; the page folds customs clearing charges into international freight.Same page, 19 Oct 2026 | Named: the PayPal help gives the Bank of China as its rate source.PayPal help, 19 Oct 2026 |
| OOTDBuy | 8% to 15% platform service fee, charged on the goods and again on international shipping; 8% on common payment channels.Service & Fees statement, 19 Oct 2026 | Customs clearance fee, “normally CNY 8.00” for each parcel.Same statement, 19 Oct 2026 | Named. Its PayPal page cites rates published by the Bank of China, and top-ups show the settlement rate and spread first.PayPal and top-up help, 19 Oct 2026 |
Read it against the find you have in mind. On a cheap reduced item, a percentage service fee charged on both the goods and the shipping can outweigh the reduction itself, so OOTDBuy’s formula is worth working through before you choose it; on the other hand it is the clearest of the four about its exchange rate. LoongBuy and Kakobuy charge no agent fee but leave their conversion basis vague or unnamed. CSSBuy takes 6% of the goods and names its rate source. Whichever you pick, the seller’s price is the same; only the layer on top changes.
These links carry an invite code and a tracking tag and are marked as sponsored. Mulebuy is not in the comparison because its site no longer loads.
How to choose a listing by its own history
When you have narrowed a find down to one listing, the best evidence about its reduced price is that listing’s own past. Pick the version you want and follow it: same listing address, same size and colour, prices noted on dated visits. A listing that has held one price for a month and now shows a lower one with a dated campaign is a different proposition from one that has never been at its crossed-out figure in your record.
Resist the urge to judge a reduction by looking across many listings of similar items; that answers a different question about which shop is cheapest. The crossed-out figure is a claim about this listing’s history, and only this listing’s history can test it.

Before you pay: checks for a reduced find
Run through these before the money moves. They take two minutes and catch most of the surprises.
- Read the label in front of the crossed-out figure, and note when there is none.
- Compare the reduced price with the lowest you recorded in the seven and thirty days before.
- Check that the 折 or percentage matches the two prices on the page.
- Confirm the version you priced is the one in your basket.
- Note the campaign end time in Beijing time, and how long your agent takes to buy.
- Add the agent’s service fee, the per-parcel charges and an estimate of shipping.
- Convert the total once at a reference rate, then compare it with what the agent will charge your card.
If the reduction still looks good after step seven, it probably is. If it only looked good at step one, the struck figure was doing the work.
